What is an asset in accounting?

Assets represent everything the company owns, i.e., goods and receivables. Assets are found on the left side of the balance sheet.

Examples of Assets

• Fixed assets: equipment, vehicles, buildings
• Stock: merchandise, raw materials
• Customer receivables
• Cash: bank accounts, cash on hand

According to the SCF, assets are divided into:

• Non-current assets: fixed assets (class 2)
• Current assets: stock, receivables, cash
